How to join our club

The first thing to do is to visit the club on a Wednesday or Friday evening and meet the gang. The National Field Archery Society insures you for the introductory evening, but that is a one-off concession and, in order to shoot more, you have to be insured. This means either enrolling on our next training course or joining the National Field Archery Society.

What to do next
This depends on which of the three categories you fall into.
1. - You want to take up archery and would like a training course to get started.
2. - have some experience or training and need a refresher course.
3. - have been trained, are an experienced archer and are moving from another club or society.

1 If you have no experience, then put your name down for our next course. You will be insured for the duration of the course. The course lasts six weeks and costs £30. All equipment is provided. We hold two courses a year If the next course is some months away, you may be able to find another NFAS club locally which is holding a training course before ours, in which case their course will qualify you to come back and shoot with us. As the course progresses, you may wish to apply for NFAS membership so that you can continue shooting with us after it finishes, instead of having to stop shooting while you wait for your application to be processed by the NFAS. At the end of the course you can apply for Muscovy membership, or move to another club of your choosing.

2 If you have a little experience and have received training at another club or with another archery organisation, then you can be “fast tracked” by getting your NFAS training during club nights on a Friday. Because you have some knowledge we can run through the course more quickly and bring you up to speed on NFAS rules and etiquette. Apply for NFAS membership first and then shoot with us while you apply for Muscovy membership.

3 If you are an experienced archer and we are happy that you can shoot well enough not to need further training, then apply to join the NFAS. When you have NFAS membership, then you can apply for membership to our club and shoot with us as a visitor while your application is considered

Whichever route you choose, after your introductory visit, you won’t be able to shoot with us again until you are an NFAS member or are actually taking part in our course. You will probably find that frustrating but we can’t do anything about it, the NFAS insurance insists on it.

To join the National Field Archery Society, go to www.nfas.net and download the membership application form. Fill it in and send off a cheque. This will cost £20 for an adult and £10 for a child under 16 years of age.

To apply for Muscovy membership, go to the link below and print out our application/renewal form. Fill out the application section and hand it to a committee member. There is a six week period when you are welcome to shoot with us a a guest while your application is considered. At the end of the six weeks, the committee will make its decision.

If your application is successful, our membership fee becomes due and this is £10 for adults and £5 for children under 16 years of age. Memberships are renewed on the 1st January each year.
